The Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, made her first official visit to Moscow, where she met with the Chairperson of the Federation Council of Russia, Valentina Matviyenko, according to the website of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.
The Turkmen side emphasized the strategic nature of relations between the two countries. "Thanks to the efforts of the heads of state, cooperation is constantly intensifying at various levels and in various areas," noted Dunyagozel Gulmanova.
The head of the Turkmen parliament highly praised Russia's contribution to the development of interparliamentary relations and emphasized the countries' successful cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.
During the meeting, the parties discussed improving mechanisms for parliamentary cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the activities of the legislative cooperation group between the two countries, and the first joint meeting is planned.
Valentina Matviyenko noted the attention paid to interparliamentary cooperation by National Leader of the Turkmen People Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and emphasized that the tone for bilateral cooperation is set by Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Vladimir Putin, who recently met in Dushanbe.
An important outcome of the visit was the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the Federation Council of Russia, which will create additional opportunities for strengthening interparliamentary ties.
The Turkmen delegation also received an invitation to participate in the visiting meeting of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in Dushanbe.
