Yesterday, at the direction of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, a regular meeting of the National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was attended by several deputy prime ministers, heads and representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, public organizations, and media outlets.
According to the State News Agency of Turkmenistan, the participants discussed issues of cooperation within the UN specialized agency.
A presentation was given on the results of the work of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO for January–September in accordance with the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan and the tasks outlined in the 2025 Plan. It was noted that during the reporting period, dozens of online meetings and consultations were held with representatives of UNESCO and its regional offices, during which promising areas for fruitful partnership in science, education, culture, and the environment were discussed. Foreign visits were also made to participate in international and regional conferences and seminars organized by UNESCO and its regional office in Almaty.
One of the main items on the agenda was a report on the ongoing work to establish geoparks, which include natural and cultural sites, as well as landscapes of international geological significance, within the framework of the UNESCO Geoparks Programme.
A separate topic of discussion at the meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO was the work of UNESCO Clubs operating in Turkmenistan.
The meeting also addressed such topical issues as strengthening the country's role in major UNESCO subdivisions, expanding international scientific cooperation, prospects for collaboration on digital projects and information exchange, as well as organizational and other issues.
