A series of expert meetings between representatives of Caspian states took place in the capital of Turkmenistan to discuss draft five-party documents on cooperation in the Caspian Sea, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
During the talks, the participants reviewed a draft Agreement between the governments of the Caspian states on cooperation in the field of marine scientific research in the Caspian Sea, as well as a draft Protocol on cooperation in combating illegal fishing of aquatic biological resources (poaching) in the Caspian Sea to the Agreement on Cooperation in Security in the Caspian Sea of November 18, 2010.
The meetings were attended by representatives of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, the Institute of the Caspian Sea, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of relevant ministries and relevant agencies of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia.
Following the talks, the participants acknowledged progress in developing draft documents and agreed to continue working together.
As noted, Turkmenistan places particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation in the Caspian region and protecting and maintaining its unique biodiversity. In 2025-2026, Turkmenistan chairs the Commission for the Conservation, Rational Use of Aquatic Biological Resources of the Caspian Sea, and Management of Their Shared Stocks.
Turkmenistan's Priority Positions for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly noted that the country intends to actively work to promote the Caspian Environmental Initiative.
