On October 15, the opening of an exhibition as part of the creative competition "Turkmen Alabai" took place in the Exhibition Hall of the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan.
The exhibition features paintings, sculptures, carpets, ceramics, jewelry, design, and animation, reflecting the image of the Turkmen Alabai as a fearless guardian of the hearth and devoted to humanity, according to the website of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.
Images of dogs have been found in Turkmenistan during excavations of ancient sites in Altyn-Depe, Margiana, and Pessedzhik-Depe. During archaeological excavations in the Baherden district of the Ahal province, an ancient pattern known as "Dog Tracks" was discovered. Paw prints of a Turkmen dog have been preserved as seals on bricks of the Shakhryslam monument, dating from the IX to XIV centuries. According to ancient legends, this pattern served as an amulet.
During the exhibition at the Academy of Arts, a jury will evaluate the works and select the winners of the creative competition for the best depiction of the Alabai in art. The winners will be announced on the eve of Turkmen Alabai Day, celebrated in the country on the last Sunday of October.
