The next meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States will be held on October 9, 2026, in Ashgabat. This was announced at the CIS summit in Dushanbe.
The chairmanship of the CIS bodies will pass from Tajikistan to Turkmenistan on January 1, 2026. The CIS heads of state decided that Turkmenistan will assume the chairmanship of the Commonwealth in 2026.
Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked his colleagues for the decision. "Let me express my gratitude for the decision regarding Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the CIS in 2026. We view this as a sign of respect and trust in Turkmenistan on the part of all participating states," he said.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan will develop a concept for its chairmanship that will reflect its views and approaches to the further development of interstate cooperation.
