A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Amanmuhammet Sazakov, Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, participated in the 76th session of the Executive Committee of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which was held at UN Headquarters in Geneva. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
At the plenary session, A. Sazakov presented the results of Turkmenistan's practical implementation of its international obligations. It was noted that, in accordance with international law, Turkmenistan successfully completed the UN Global Campaign "#IBelong" in 2024, aimed at eliminating statelessness worldwide. As a result, more than 32 thousand stateless persons received Turkmen citizenship.
On the sidelines of the forum in Geneva, Amanmuhammet Sazakov met with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.
The parties noted the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNHCR, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, particularly in the area of protecting the rights of refugees and stateless persons.
The parties confirmed their readiness to continue active dialogue and further expand cooperation.
