In the Tashkent region, doctors performed a complex operation to separate conjoined twins born prematurely at 33–34 weeks of pregnancy. The babies were born by cesarean section, and just nine hours later, they underwent emergency surgery.
According to the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, the high-tech procedure lasted five hours. The operation was performed by a team of specialists led by Professor Bakhtiyor Ergashev, head of the Neonatal Surgery Center at the Republican Perinatal Center.
Health Minister Asilbek Khudayarov visited the medical facility and checked the infants' condition. He noted that such surgeries are not performed in all countries and require extensive preparation even in countries with advanced medical systems. He stated that the successful emergency separation of premature twins at the regional level marks a new stage in the development of medicine in Uzbekistan.
The medical specialists involved in the operation were awarded the "Excellent Healthcare Worker of the Republic of Uzbekistan" badge. After their condition stabilized, the newborns and their mother were discharged home.
