Turkmenistan is ready to host the next summit of the heads of Caspian states with a focus on the environmental security of the Caspian Sea. This was stated by the National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Gabala, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
"Considering the current environmental situation of the Caspian Sea, it would be appropriate to prioritize ensuring its environmental safety as the main topic of the upcoming summit," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted.
During the meeting, the parties focused on cooperation within the Caspian region. They emphasized the need to intensify five-way cooperation in the Caspian region, particularly in areas of security, economics, ecology, trade, shipping, and scientific research.
The interlocutors also discussed the development of bilateral trade and economic partnership. Noting the productivity of mutual trade, they emphasized the need to more actively utilize the existing potential. The Intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani Commission on Economic Cooperation plays a key role in this regard.
In addition, issues of expanding bilateral cooperation in areas such as transport and logistics, energy, agriculture, the textile industry and new technologies were discussed.
