A groundbreaking ceremony for a mosque that Turkmenistan will donate to Azerbaijan took place in Fuzuli. The event, held via teleconference with the heads of delegations from the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) member states, followed the 12th OTS summit in Gabala.
According to the “Turkmenistan” newspaper, the ceremony was opened by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who expressed gratitude for the construction of the mosque as a gift from Turkmenistan.
In his speech, National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the mosque being built in Fuzuli will be of great importance for strengthening Turkmen-Azerbaijani friendly and fraternal relations.
The muftis of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, who participated in the ceremony via video link from the groundbreaking site, recited verses from the Quran and offered good wishes.
The heads of delegations from all the Uzbek territorial communities symbolically launched the mosque's construction by simultaneously tapping a screen. The ceremony concluded with a special video about the project.
The mosque will be built with funds from the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Care. Construction will be carried out by the private enterprise "Aga-Gurlushyk."
