The Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, accepted the credentials of the new Irish Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Claire Brosnan, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
On behalf of the head of state, the speaker of parliament congratulated the diplomat on his appointment and wished him success in strengthening friendly relations between the two countries.
The Ambassador conveyed greetings and best wishes from the Irish leadership to the President of Turkmenistan.
Brosnan was briefed on the structure of the national parliament, the work to modernize legislation, and the country's main domestic and foreign policies. It was noted that Turkmenistan places great importance on developing mutually beneficial cooperation with foreign countries, including the European Union.
The parties confirmed their interest in intensifying bilateral ties, as well as interaction within the framework of Turkmenistan's relations with the EU and through international organizations.
Brosnan noted that it was a great honour for her to represent Ireland in Turkmenistan, which is known for its peace-loving policy, and confirmed her readiness to promote the development of Irish-Turkmen dialogue in various areas.
