Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree pardoning 225 convicted citizens in honor of the country's 34th anniversary of independence, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.
The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting. As the head of state noted, pardoning citizens convicted of crimes but repentant for their actions is a noble tradition.
State Security Council Secretary Begench Gundogdyev presented a report on the progress of the pardon proposals.
The President instructed the Secretary of the State Security Council and the Minister of Defense, together with the heads of law enforcement agencies, to organize the release of pardoned individuals from prison and their return to their families.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his wish to "work conscientiously, sincerely serve the Motherland, and live, enjoying the fruits of your labor."
