The President of Turkmenistan signed a decree authorizing the State Concern “Türkmenhimiýa” to enter into a contract with the Japanese company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. and the Turkish company Gap Inşaat Yatirim ve Diş Tiсaret A.Ş. for the design and construction of a complex for the production of 1,155 million tons of urea per year in the Turkmenbashi district of the Balkan velayat, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
According to the document, construction work will begin in July 2026, and the plant is scheduled to be commissioned in February 2030. The complex will include landscaping of the surrounding area and will become one of the country's largest export-oriented chemical industry facilities.
