Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR is interested in participating in promising oil field development projects in Turkmenistan. This was stated by Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Economy, Sahib Nureddin Alekperov, speaking at the TIF 2025 Investment Forum in the “Avaza” National Tourism Zone.
Alekperov noted that the electric power sector deserves special attention. "Azerbaijan, as a major producer and exporter of electricity, offers a reliable transit corridor. We see good prospects for organizing electricity supplies from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, with the possibility of further transit to third countries," he said.
According to him, in the broader context, the possibility of exporting green electricity from Central Asia to European markets via Azerbaijan is being explored together with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. "We remain open to proposals from the Turkmen side in this area," the deputy minister added.
Alekperov also emphasized that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan plays a key role in optimizing the East-West transport corridor and increasing the efficiency of the Middle Corridor.
"In the first seven months of this year, the volume of transit traffic between our countries reached more than 1 million tons, which is 13% higher than the same period last year," he reported. The bulk of this traffic—approximately 76%—is accounted for by rail along the East-West route.
The TIF 2025 Investment Forum is taking place in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone on the Caspian Sea.
