During a visit to the reconstructed “Loshitsky” complex in Minsk, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko spoke about the development of a new potato variety by academics, RBK reports.
During a conversation with Minsk residents, the head of state noted that the new variety should be distributed among the population for cultivation in private plots.
“We need to distribute it to the population so that they can cultivate it in their plots,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
The president also confessed his love for potatoes: "I love them terribly. Yesterday I sinned, I ate them." During a conversation with a young artist who gave him a painting, Lukashenko promised to give her a large bag of potatoes as a gift, joking: "I'll think about what to give you. Like I give my colleagues potatoes."
The head of state also assured that Belarusians will be provided with potatoes: “We will not allow this to happen again.”
