The Turkmenistan national karate team won two bronze medals at the 23rd Asian Championship among cadets and juniors under 21, which ended in the Chinese city of Shaoguan. This was reported by the online newspaper "Golden Age".
The competition, organized by the Asian Karate Federation WKF in the city district of Guangdong Province, brought together 498 athletes from 30 countries. Turkmenistan was represented by eight athletes.
The first bronze medal was won by Gurbannazar Amandurdyev, who competed in kumite among juniors aged 16-17 in the weight category up to 55 kg. The second bronze medal was brought to the team by Garamamet Garamamedov in kumite among athletes under 21 in the category up to 60 kg.
Both athletes train in the national team of Turkmenistan under the leadership of head coach Aydin Charyev, a 5th dan black belt holder.
The World Karate Federation (WKF) unites 200 countries of five continental federations and is the only karate organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee. The federation includes more than 100 million athletes.
