A powerful tropical storm, Tapa, has reached the coast of China's Guangdong province, bringing with it destructive winds of up to 30 meters per second. According to TASS, the storm poses a serious threat to the densely populated southern region of the country, vesti.ru reports.
According to the China Meteorological Administration, the atmospheric pressure at the center of the cyclone dropped to a critical 980 hectopascals, indicating the significant strength of the natural phenomenon.
Storm Tapa hit the coastal strip between the cities of Taishan and Yangjiang, affecting large areas of the region. Meteorologists are predicting heavy rainfall in central and southern Guangdong Province and central and eastern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
According to experts, the tropical storm will continue to move northwest, gradually weakening as it moves inland. However, along its path, it can cause significant damage to infrastructure and create a danger to local residents.
Authorities are urging residents of the affected regions to take extra precautions and closely monitor weather reports. Emergency services have been put on high alert.
