On September 3, the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office held a meeting of the working group on the development of the National Strategic Plan for 2026-2030 for tuberculosis control in Turkmenistan at the UN building in Ashgabat.
The meeting was held in a video conference format under the leadership of the WHO/EURO Regional Tuberculosis Advisor Askar Yedilbayev and WHO expert Mikhail Volik.
The meeting was opened by WHO Representative in Turkmenistan Yegor Zaytsev. In his speech, he emphasized that updating national guidelines for tuberculosis control and treatment, conducting operational research and implementing other key activities coordinated by WHO/Europe with the support of UNDP and the Global Fund contributed to significant progress in implementing the National Tuberculosis Control Programme of Turkmenistan for 2021–2025.
The meeting was attended by members of the national working group of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of the National Red Crescent Society and the Medical Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The new National Strategic Plan 2026–2030 will serve as a roadmap to accelerate progress, reduce the burden of TB and ultimately improve the health and well-being of the population, according to a WHO press release.
