The Chinese side has won an international tender for the development of the fourth stage of the largest gas field Galkynysh in Turkmenistan. This was announced by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during a meeting with the Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping within the framework of a working visit to China, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
The Galkynysh field, which has been developed since 2013, is one of the largest in the world. Its area exceeds 5 thousand square kilometers, and its reserves are estimated at 27,4 trillion cubic meters of natural gas. Currently, the second stage of the field is planned to be developed, which will increase the supply of Turkmen gas to China from 40 to 60 billion cubic meters annually.
The President of Turkmenistan congratulated Chairman Xi Jinping on winning the tender and noted that the gas industry is a strategic area of bilateral economic cooperation. A clear confirmation of this is the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline, which has been successfully operating for more than 15 years.
According to Serdar Berdimuhamedov, a draft General Agreement on the basic principles of gas cooperation between Turkmenistan and China has been prepared, which will become the basis for the further development of the partnership.
Xi Jinping, in turn, called cooperation with Turkmenistan in the gas sector "a great honor" for China and thanked the Turkmen side for creating conditions for the activities of Chinese partners. He emphasized that the necessary work is currently being carried out to implement the bilateral agreement reached in the natural gas sector.
