An earthquake in Afghanistan's eastern Kunar province has killed 500 people, Xinhua reported, citing state-run “Radio Television Afghanistan”.
According to official figures, more than 1000 people were injured to varying degrees as a result of the disaster.
An earthquake measuring 6,0 in magnitude struck the eastern Afghan province of Kunar on Sunday night local time. According to the US Geological Survey, five aftershocks measuring 4,3 to 5,2 were recorded in the same region of the country after the main shock.
Authorities are continuing to work to eliminate the aftermath of the earthquake and provide assistance to victims.
