Türkiye’s largest sailing regatta, the “Bosphorus Cup”, will be held in Istanbul from September 18 to 21, 2025. The competition, which is being held for the 24th time, is the country's oldest regatta and one of the few sailing competitions in the world that takes place simultaneously on two continents, the press service of the Turkish Embassy in Turkmenistan reported.
The regatta will feature around 85 yachts competing in eight different categories, including IRC, ORC and cruising boats. The main event is scheduled for September 20, when around 900 sailors from 10 countries will take to the starting line of the main stage of the regatta.
The races will take place in the waters of the Bosphorus Strait, the world's only natural strait separating two continents. Participants will sail under three suspension bridges in Istanbul on yachts ranging in length from 25 to 86 feet.
Türkiye, with its geographical location with access to the sea on three sides, traditionally attracts water sports enthusiasts from all over the world. Organizers expect the competition to attract the attention of about a million spectators who will be able to watch the races from the shores of the strait.
The “Bosphorus Cup” holds a special place in the international sailing calendar and annually turns Istanbul into the center of maritime competitions that combine sporting excitement with the unique geographical features of the region.
