Russia and Turkmenistan intend to expand trade and economic cooperation and implement joint projects in the areas of infrastructure, logistics, and cultural and humanitarian affairs. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference following talks with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.
"Our conversation today confirmed the firm mutual commitment of both Russia and Turkmenistan to expand trade and economic cooperation, implement joint projects in the transport and logistics, infrastructure, and energy sectors. We highly appreciated the development of cultural and humanitarian ties," Lavrov said.
The Minister noted that Russia and Turkmenistan have a number of joint initiatives in the cultural sphere. Among them are the creation of a Russian-Turkmen university, the construction of a new building for the State Russian Drama Theatre named after A.S. Pushkin in Ashgabat, and an additional educational building for the Joint Russian-Turkmen Secondary School named after A.S. Pushkin.
The talks between the heads of the foreign policy departments took place in Moscow. During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of the bilateral political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian agenda, and exchanged views on international and regional issues.
