Scientists from the Institute of Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan S. Lisovenko and D. Arazov conducted research on the extraction of essential oils from various parts of the Turkmen juniper (archa) and the production of three types of medicinal ointments based on them. This was reported by "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
Together with pharmacologists of the Turkmen-Indian enterprise "Türkmenderman "Ajanta Farma Limited" scientists focused on the production of 1,3 and 5 percent ointment based on essential oil, which has the potential to treat burns, including the retina, accelerate the healing process and promote wound cleaning. In addition, unlike other ointments, juniper does not have any irritating effect.

The healing properties of the Turkmen juniper are due to its essential oils, which contain many active substances, including alcohols, terpenes and acids. In the past, it was also used in the construction of wells, which were lined with wooden tiles inside. This way, the water did not spoil, and the well served for many years due to the antibacterial properties of the rock.
As the scientists emphasized, their task was to determine the medicinal potential of the plant in order to obtain pharmaceutical forms, the range of which could be expanded through further research.

The project involves artificial cultivation of juniper trees, rather than taking raw materials from nature, since juniper is listed in the Red Book of Turkmenistan, the source notes.
