PETRONAS CEO in Turkmenistan Ismail Ismadi announced the company’s plans to further develop energy projects in the country on the eve of the 30th International Conference and Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – OGT 2025”.
In an interview with Turkmen Energy Journal, the head of the Malaysian energy company noted that PETRONAS has been operating in Turkmenistan for almost 30 years, since the signing of the Production Sharing Agreement for Block I in 1996. During this period, the company has accumulated significant experience in developing offshore fields in the Caspian Sea and introducing advanced technologies in the production and processing of hydrocarbons.
Ismadi stressed that Block I remains the core of PETRONAS' operations in Turkmenistan and retains significant potential for further development. Together with its partners, including ADNOC Turkmenistan RSC Limited and the state-owned enterprise “Hazarnebit”, the company continues to focus on optimizing production and increasing operational efficiency.
The company plans to focus on sustainable development of deposits, digitalization of processes and application of best practices for monitoring and reducing emissions. Particular attention is paid to the implementation of technologies that improve environmental performance.
PETRONAS is actively developing social responsibility programs in Turkmenistan. A key initiative is the educational grants program in cooperation with PETRONAS University of Technology in Malaysia, which has enabled hundreds of Turkmen students to obtain higher education and then return to work in the country's energy sector.
The company recently celebrated the sending of another group of students for training, highlighting the long-term nature of PETRONAS’s investment in developing Turkmenistan’s human capital.
The PETRONAS chief praised the upcoming OGT 2025 conference as a "truly flagship event" not only for Turkmenistan but for the entire region. He said the event has been bringing together government leaders, investors and technology companies to share ideas and build trust for 30 years.
Ismadi noted the high interest of Malaysian companies in participating in OGT 2025, which is largely a result of the successful TEIF 2025 energy investment forum held in April. This reflects the progressive development of economic and energy ties between Turkmenistan and Malaysia.
More than 1000 delegates from over 60 countries are expected to attend the anniversary conference. All exhibition spaces have already been completely sold out, which underlines the growing role of Turkmenistan as a reliable energy partner in the international arena.
