Typhoon “Kajiki”, which hit northern and central Vietnam, has resulted in the death of three people and injured ten, Xinhua reported with reference to a statement from the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
The natural disaster was accompanied by heavy rains, strong winds and floods, which caused serious damage to infrastructure and agriculture in the region.
The typhoon damaged more than 6,8 thousand residential buildings. The agricultural sector suffered greatly: over 28,8 thousand hectares of rice fields and 2,2 thousand hectares of other agricultural crops were flooded. Hurricane winds knocked down almost 18 thousand trees.
Significant damage was caused to the region's power grid, with 331 power poles falling and power outages for nearly 1,3 million customers.
Local authorities are currently conducting active restoration work and continue to assess the full extent of the damage caused. Rescue services are working around the clock to eliminate the consequences of the natural disaster.
