Uzbekistan has proposed creating a new tourist ring with locations in three Central Asian countries to attract foreign tourists who prefer to visit several countries in the region at once. This was reported by the Committee for Tourism Development of Uzbekistan, RIA Novosti reports.
"We have developed a tourist ring route through locations in three Central Asian countries at once - Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. This will expand the opportunities for foreign tourists to visit our region," the statement says.
The initiative is currently being developed with tourism departments and companies in Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
According to the committee, the route network includes 16 sites that have the status of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as sites of national and regional significance.
Travelers are invited to follow in the footsteps of the Great Silk Road, visiting ancient cities: Merv in Turkmenistan, Urgench, Khiva and Ellik-Kala in Uzbekistan, Otrar, Taras and Sairam in Kazakhstan.
These territories are known for their developed system of ethnotourism, crafts, gastronomic traditions, and diverse natural landscapes – from deserts and steppes to mountain ranges and rivers, the tourism development committee added.
