In Kazakhstan, in the city of Borovoe, the 90th anniversary meeting of the Interstate Coordination Water Management Commission (ICWC) was held, in which the Chairman of the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan D. Genjiyev took part online. This was reported by "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
The forum was also attended by heads of the ministries of water resources and irrigation (Kazakhstan), energy and water resources (Tajikistan), water management (Uzbekistan), members of delegations, and a representative of Kyrgyzstan as an observer.
The agenda of the meeting included issues on the use of limits and operating modes of reservoirs for the 2025 vegetation period in the Amu Darya and Syr Darya river basins, and discussed the progress in implementing the tasks arising from the summits of the heads of state - founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) - in the city of Turkmenbashy (2018, Turkmenistan) and in the city of Dushanbe (2023, Republic of Tajikistan).
Information was also provided on the work of the IFAS executive bodies to improve its organizational structure and contractual and legal framework.
After the parties discussed all issues, appropriate decisions were made and a protocol was signed, according to which the next, 91st meeting of the delegations of the five countries in the ICWC format is planned to be held in Turkmenistan.
The Interstate Coordination Water Management Commission is one of the commissions of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, its structural subdivision along with the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (ICSD), which together with the Scientific and Information Center are based in Ashgabat. ICWC is an interstate body of the region for water distribution in accordance with the requests of the agricultural sectors of the countries, has its own SIC and country divisions.
