At least 660 people have fallen victim and 929 injured in Pakistan's monsoon rains and related accidents. The disaster has been ongoing since late June, when the country's monsoon season began.
This was reported by the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan, TASS reports. According to official data, the highest number of victims was recorded in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where 392 people died and 245 were injured. In the northeastern province of Punjab, the number of victims was 164 people, 582 were injured.
Deaths were also reported from the provinces of Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and other parts of the country.
The scale of the disaster required the evacuation of almost 30 thousand people, who were placed in temporary shelters. The disaster damaged about 2,5 thousand buildings and caused significant damage to livestock and agriculture.
Pakistani authorities are making efforts to save lives and minimize damage from the natural disaster.
The monsoon season in Pakistan traditionally lasts from June to September and is characterized by heavy rainfall, which regularly leads to floods and other natural disasters in the country.
