The TouristDigiPay program has been launched in test mode in Thailand, CTN News reports. The service allows foreign tourists to convert Bitcoin, Ethereum, as well as USDT and USDC stablecoins into Thai baht via an e-wallet on one of the country's licensed payment platforms.
To use, you must complete the KYC procedure and open an account from which you can pay for goods and services. Cash withdrawals are not provided, and the remaining funds can only be returned after closing the account. Spending limits are up to 500 thousand baht per month for large sellers and up to 50 thousand baht for small ones.
At the same time, the Bank of Thailand is working on a “tourist wallet” for QR code payments with the ability to link foreign bank cards. The authorities expect that the new solutions will increase the country’s attractiveness for tourists, whose number has decreased by 6,56% since the beginning of the year compared to 2024, to 20 million people.
