Turkmenistan intends to hold the Caspian Ecological Forum in the near future, which will become a platform for preparing a special summit of the heads of Caspian states on the ecology of the Caspian Sea. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov on Tuesday at the conference "The Caspian Sea - the Sea of Friendship and Peace" in Avaza.
"We consider it appropriate to hold another Caspian Environmental Forum in the near future. It seems to us that this forum could become a platform for preparing a special summit of the heads of Caspian states dedicated to the environmental issues of the Caspian. One of the main topics should be the reduction of the Caspian Sea level," Meredov said.
The head of the MFA recalled that at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov put forward the Caspian Environmental Initiative. "This is not just a proposal for consideration, it is a call for active actions by all states," the minister emphasized.
According to him, Turkmenistan has prepared a concept that has been sent to all Caspian states. "We will be grateful for the earliest possible receipt of responses, proposals, comments and remarks on the draft document sent," Meredov noted.
The Minister expressed confidence that the document could become the basis for multilateral cooperation between the Caspian states. "On its basis, strategic plans and action programs could be prepared that would include specific measures to ensure environmental security in the Caspian in the long term," he said.
