A meeting of ministers on “South-South” cooperation was held in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone within the framework of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.
The event focused on enhancing “South-South” and triangular cooperation in science, technology and innovation systems to promote structural economic transformation and digital development in landlocked developing countries. The meeting provided an effective platform for discussing strategies and mechanisms aimed at strengthening the scientific and innovative potential of these countries, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States Rabab Fatima noted that “South-South” cooperation is an effective platform for developing joint solutions to problems related to the geographical location of landlocked developing countries. She emphasized the particular importance of mutual support and solidarity in the current context to promote sustainable development and economic integration.
“The UN will continue to support initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation,” Fatima said, calling on all to strengthen the dialogue.
During the meeting, participants discussed ways to ensure access to modern technologies and know-how in landlocked developing countries through “South-South” and triangular cooperation.
The meeting participants reaffirmed that effective use of “South-South” cooperation and deepening regional integration are important conditions for increasing the participation of landlocked developing countries in international trade.
The event, dedicated to strengthening development finance through “South-South” and triangular cooperation to ensure inclusive and accessible connectivity for landlocked developing countries, discussed effective mechanisms to attract long-term investment for infrastructure projects that contribute to sustainable economic development in these countries.
Participants stressed the importance of using “South-South” and triangular cooperation to attract various financial sources, including public, private and international funds. Particular attention was paid to the development and financing of innovative financial mechanisms that can ensure long-term sustainability of investments, as well as the involvement of all sectors of society in the financing process.
Following the “South-South” Cooperation Ministerial Meeting, participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening mutual cooperation and sharing experiences to address common challenges, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts in developing infrastructure, trade relations and sustainable economic models.
