Turkmenistan and UNCTAD launched 3rd phase of project on digitalization of customs processes

The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) signed a project document marking the launch of the third phase of a joint initiative to digitalize the customs system of Turkmenistan and create the foundations for the functioning of “smart customs”.


As reported on the customs service website, the document provides for the introduction of modern information technologies, automation of key processes, increased transparency and efficiency of customs administration, as well as the development of human resources.


The signing of the agreement took place in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone and was accompanied by a bilateral meeting between the Chairman of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebecca Grimpson, who praised the country's efforts in the field of digital transformation.


The signing of the document was a logical continuation of the previous stages of digitalization, implemented with the assistance of UNCTAD.
