In the capital of Turkmenistan, at the conference hall of the “Archabil” hotel, a discussion was held on national plans and priority areas of activity within the framework of the implementation of the provisions of the Kigali Amendment, which was adopted in 2016 to the Montreal Protocol of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and ratified by Turkmenistan in 2020.
The event was organized by the Ozone Center under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the UNFCCC representative in the country, reports “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.
Several projects and planned events in support of the country's efforts on the climate agenda were presented to representatives of ministries and departments, the “Turkmengaz” and “Turkmennebit” State Corporations, and state and business enterprises involved in the market for the installation and maintenance of cooling and air conditioning systems.
Experts hope that actions within the framework of the Kigali Amendment will contribute to curbing global warming. Currently, the world community is moving towards developing a new generation of refrigerants that will be neutral both to the planet's ozone layer and to the climate. These actions are related to the modernization of the equipment profile, the introduction of new technologies, building codes, safety regulations for refrigeration technicians, and their retraining.
The meeting concluded with a discussion on the needs and priorities of Turkmenistan in implementing national ozone legislation and global agreements, and the timing of data collection for subsequent action planning and other steps in this area were determined.
