US President Donald Trump has announced sweeping trade restrictions that will affect America's two largest trading partners. Starting August 1, 2025, all goods shipped to the United States from the European Union and Mexico will be subject to a 30 percent import tariff.
The decision was announced by the American leader through his account on the Truth Social platform. In his statement, Trump also warned of a possible further tightening of trade policy: if the EU and Mexico impose retaliatory measures, tariffs could be increased even further.
