Snow fell on Monday in several coastal cities in Buenos Aires province, covering beaches and resort areas. Such precipitation has not been seen in the region since 2013, writes efe.com.
Snow began falling Sunday afternoon and continued Monday in the cities of Miramar, Monte Hermoso, Mar del Plata, Costa del Este and San Eduardo del Mar. Miramar has not seen snowfall of this intensity in more than 30 years.
According to Argentina's National Meteorological Service, the snowfall was caused by the arrival of a cold, humid air mass with southerly and southwesterly winds. The air temperature was 0-1 degrees Celsius. Meteorological warnings are in effect in the region.
Snowfalls were recorded not only on the Atlantic coast, but also in other areas of the country: Tucumán, southern Cordoba, La Pampa, as well as in the provinces of Mendoza, Neuquén and Chubut. In the city of Trelew, snow fell for the first time in 10 years, and in Puerto Madryn, a football match was cancelled due to weather conditions.
Meteorologists predict that low temperatures in the south of the country will remain at -15°C for a week.
