The newly appointed Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) B. Mamedov met with the Minister of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan Ch. Babaniyazov during his visit to Ashgabat. This was reported by "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
The parties discussed a wide range of issues in the field of environmental protection. Focusing on the need to increase attention to issues of rational use of water resources in the region, the Minister of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan proposed developing a pilot project to create nurseries of deciduous trees in addition to coniferous trees.
B. Mamedov, in turn, acquainted representatives of the ministry with the priorities and new projects of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia.
Also during the meeting, information was provided on the UNDP project on the environment, which can provide support in improving the regulatory framework of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, namely the development of a forest cadastre and an ecological atlas, as well as other legal documents in the field of environmental protection. In this context, it was proposed to appoint a national coordinating person from the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan to participate in the program.
