President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov is taking part in the second summit in the "Central Asia – China" format, which is being held in the capital of Kazakhstan. The event is being attended by the head of Turkmenistan, the Chairman of the People's Republic of China and the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
As reported by the electronic version of the Türkmenistan newspaper, the summit is taking place in the "Independence" Complex in Astana.
The "Central Asia-China" format was created in 2020 as a new platform for cooperation. Over the past period, the leaders of the six countries held high-level meetings: in January 2022 online and in person in Xi'an in May 2023. The current second summit in Astana covers a wide range of issues aimed at strengthening multilateral cooperation.
The agenda includes expanding political dialogue, deepening trade and economic relations, developing cross-border transport connectivity, promoting cooperation in the energy and innovation sectors. Particular attention is paid to ensuring regional security.
The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a welcoming speech. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also plans to speak at the summit outlining Turkmenistan's position on further deepening six-party cooperation.
Following the summit, it is planned to sign two key documents: the Agreement on Permanent Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, as well as the Astana Declaration.
