An ambitious project for an electromagnetic launch pad for space rockets is planned to be implemented by 2028. The private space company Galactic Energy is working on the innovative development together with research institutes in Sichuan Province and the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), reports bigasia.ru.
The key feature of the new technology is the use of powerful electromagnets to accelerate the rocket to supersonic speed even before the main engine is turned on. Experts say this approach will significantly optimize fuel consumption and simplify the procedure for preparing for space launches.
The successful implementation of the project could give China a significant advantage in the international space arena, including competition with the American company SpaceX. It is worth noting that Galactic Energy, founded in 2018, has already demonstrated strong performance, having carried out 18 successful launches and put 77 satellites into orbit.
