The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced the postponement of the first ever Olympic eSports Games. Initially scheduled for 2025, the competition will now be held in 2027 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, reports daily.afisha.ru.
The event is being organised in close collaboration between the IOC, the Saudi Arabian Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and the eSports World Cup Foundation (EWCF), which acts as a key partner.
According to the IOC, this cooperation is aimed at achieving significant long-term results in bringing traditional sports and eSports closer together, as well as expanding opportunities for athletes and teams to represent their countries on the international stage.
Hosting the Olympic eSports Games is part of Saudi Arabia's broader strategy to develop its sports industry. In recent years, the kingdom has successfully hosted over 100 international sporting events, which has contributed to a significant increase in local interest in sports.
