The Barcelona metro (Spain) has implemented a system that allows using the braking energy of trains to charge electric vehicles. This environmentally friendly and energy-efficient project demonstrates an advanced approach to urban energy, writes euro-pulse.ru.
The principle of the system is simple: when the train slows down at the platform, the kinetic energy of movement is converted into electricity thanks to a special operating mode of the engine-generator.
The resulting electricity Is distributed in two main directions. Part of the energy is used to ensure the operation of the trains themselves and the metro infrastructure. And the remaining energy is transmitted via cable lines to the surface, where it is used to charge electric vehicles at specialized stations.
At the moment, 16 Barcelona metro stations are involved in the project.
