46-year-old American millionaire Brian Johnson, known for his radical life extension experiments, has stopped taking rapamycin after five years of regular use. According to Gizmodo, this decision is due to concerns that the drug may accelerate rather than slow down the aging process, writes RAMBLER. Johnson, who has invested millions of dollars in the fight against aging, takes a complex of 54 different drugs daily. His goal is to set a world record for biological rejuvenation of the body. However, recent studies have forced him to reconsider the role of rapamycin in this protocol.
“Despite the enormous potential of preclinical testing, my team and I concluded that the benefits of lifelong rapamycin do not justify the serious side effects (skin infections, lipid disorders, increased glucose levels). In addition, a new study showed that the drug accelerates aging in humans for 16 epigenetic hours. We decided to stop taking it completely,” Johnson explained.
With his Blueprint project, launched in 2021, the millionaire aims to reduce the biological age of more than 70 organs in his body. In two years, he has announced significant results: rejuvenating his heart by five years, achieving the skin condition of a 28-year-old and the lungs of an 18-year-old. In addition to drug therapy, Johnson adheres to a strict regimen that excludes alcohol and smoking, follows a special diet and exercises regularly.
He also previously experimented with transfusing the blood plasma of his 17-year-old son Talmajay, but stopped the procedures due to their ineffectiveness.
