An earthquake in the Afghan province of Herat died more than 2 thousand people

In western Afghanistan, in the Herat province, a strong earthquake occurred on October 7, Reuters reports.


The power of the first shock was 6.3 points, followed by aftershocks of 6.3, 5.9 and 5.5 points. The epicenter was located 40 km northwest of the city. According to data provided by representatives of the Afghan government, 2 445 people were killed and another 9 240 were injured.


Six villages have been destroyed, and victims continue to be pulled out from the collapses. 1 329 houses and buildings were completely or partially destroyed.


The World Health Organization sent 12 ambulances to the Zanda Yan district of Herat province to evacuate the victims.


The October 7 earthquake in Afghanistan was one of the most destructive and deadly in the region this year.
