President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent sincere congratulations to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the occasion of his birthday, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports today.

The UN Secretary General turns 74 today.

“I would like to especially note your contribution that you have made in recent years, holding the highest responsible position in the United Nations, to ensure global peace and sustainable development, as well as to counter emerging new challenges,” the message of the head of state, which also expressed firm confidence in the further development and strengthening of strategic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN.

Taking this opportunity, the President of Turkmenistan expressed his heartfelt wishes to the UN Secretary General António Guterres for good health, happiness and great success in all endeavors.

On October 13, 2016, the UN General Assembly approved António Guterres as Secretary General of the world organization. On January 1, 2017, he took up his duties.

On January 1, 2021, António Guterres announced his candidacy for a second term. On June 18, 2021, the General Assembly appointed Guterres as UN Secretary General for a second term.
