On Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a briefing dedicated to the new city of Arkadag being built 30 kilometers southwest of the Turkmen capital, the great significance of this project for the country and the international aspects of its implementation, reports the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper today.

The briefing was attended by leaders and representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations, foreign and domestic media.

At the briefing, it was noted that the decision to build the city of Arkadag, taken in accordance with the initiative of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, became one of the brightest manifestations of the dynamic development of Turkmenistan. The new city is being built on an area of 950 hectares in one of the ancient places of Turkmenistan, where the glorious history of the Turkmen land began. The city of Arkadag, whose construction was launched in 2019, is intended to become a major scientific, educational, cultural and international center of the country.

Its construction is carried out on the basis of advanced methods of architecture and urban planning, using the standards of “smart” cities, “green” technologies and in accordance with high environmental standards.

On March 24, the Law of Turkmenistan “On the city of Arkadag” was published, which assigns a special legal status to the city of Arkadag - a city of state significance - for the first time in national history. Other legal acts concerning the new city were also prepared and adopted.

It was also noted that the city of Arkadag was visited by representatives of various international organizations: missions of the United Nations Specialized Agency for Industrial Development (UNIDO), the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and others.

It was emphasized that foreign partners highly appreciate the construction, architectural, design, logistics, technological solutions involved in the design and construction of the city, the level of its social infrastructure.

A separate emphasis at the briefing was placed on the environmental friendliness of the city of Arkadag, when choosing the location of which, such factors as the natural landscape, climate, etc. were taken into account. A distinctive feature of the urban system of life is the creation of optimally comfortable conditions for living, creative work, life and recreation of people who are served by innovative interactive technologies.

It was also reported that a tender for the construction of the second stage of the city of Arkadag would be held soon.

During the briefing, foreign partners noted that Turkmenistan is an example in the creation of such cities, and the city of Arkadag undoubtedly has a great future. It was also emphasized that in view of the fact that the environmental aspect is directly related to the factor of health and, in general, improving the quality of life of the population, the concept of a new “smart” city meets the principles of the global “Healthy Cities” movement under the auspices of WHO.
