Czech Independence Day is celebrated annually on October 28. This public holiday commemorates the anniversary of the formation of the independent Czechoslovak Republic in 1918. Then the Czech Republic, as part of Czechoslovakia, gained independence from Austria-Hungary, later the independence of the Czech Republic itself was proclaimed in 1993.
