Specialists of The Turkmen agricultural Institute in Dashoguz have grown a good crop of millet on the territory of their experimental-educational farm this year. The crop was planted by them in the fields after harvesting winter wheat. From each of the 5 hectares of land received 15-20 quintals of grain, reports "Turkmenistan: Golden age".
Experts are confident that the accumulated experience of cultivation will help them in the future to significantly increase the yield of crops. Millet as an agricultural crop has very favorable properties - a short growing season, suitability for growing on dry soil, resistance to heat.
In previous years the total area of 8 hectares was successfully cultivated grain sorghum, better known to us as Guinea corn. Its yield was 30-40 centners of grain per hectare.
The drought-resistant crop has a relatively short growing season, quickly adapts to adverse conditions and grows on almost any soil, including saline ones.
Millet and Guinea corn are a valuable and nutritious feed for poultry and livestock, which is very promising for mass production. In addition, they are also suitable for cooking.
In Dashoguz velayat, traditional recipes for making black tea with milk with the addition of fried millet "Sök" and porridge from Jugara - "köje". The dough from the flour of Jugara is used in preparation of Kurtyk ("kürtuk").
