Today, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a telephone conversation with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, the website of the Turkmen foreign Ministry reports.

The President of Turkmenistan congratulated his Afghan counterpart on his re-election to the highest state post. Noting the constructive nature of cooperation between the two countries, the leaders stressed the importance of a coordinated partnership for the benefit of the two countries and peoples, as well as the entire world community.

In particular, according to the state news Agency of Turkmenistan, the interlocutors noted fruitful cooperation between the neighboring States, primarily in the trade and economic, fuel and energy, transport and communication spheres. It is enough to mention such large-scale projects as the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline, a high-voltage power transmission line and fiber-optic communication along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route, etc.

As President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed, the favorable geographical position of the two countries is of great importance in the implementation of strategic projects for the formation of new transit and transport corridors. A new joint project on the creation of the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey corridor was named as a striking example the project is designed not only to boost trade and economic ties between the States of the region, but also to increase trade turnover between the countries of Central and South Asia and Europe.

The head of the IRA expressed gratitude to the Turkmen leader for the policy of creation and real assistance to the Afghan people in building a peaceful life. In this regard, they expressed firm confidence that the approaches proposed by the President of Turkmenistan to solving the Afghan problem and the major transport and communication projects initiated by him will make an invaluable contribution to the peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, strengthening the foundations of stability and security, and sustainable socio-economic development of the entire region.

After discussing the current state of Affairs regarding the international agenda, the leaders agreed to continue active interaction in the bilateral format and within the framework of international organizations.

The cultural and humanitarian sphere was also called an important vector of interstate cooperation, which is another factor in bringing our peoples closer together, carefully preserving national traditions, one of which is Novruz. In this regard, the heads of the two neighboring countries exchanged greetings on the occasion of this holiday.

During the telephone conversation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited his Afghan counterpart to the upcoming international conference and events in December on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality. The offer was gratefully accepted.
