From January to June, the volume of freight passing through Turkmenistan’s borders totalled 10,5 million tonnes

In the first six months of this year, freight turnover through border crossing points on Turkmenistan’s state border exceeded 10,5 million tonnes, which is 10 per cent higher than the figure for the same period last year. The volume of foreign trade shipments, including exports and imports of goods, increased by 6 per cent. This was reported on the website of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.

During the period in question, more than 3,5 million tonnes of freight were transported through the country in transit, which is 15 per cent more than last year.

The geographical scope of transit flows through the country has expanded to 94 countries.

Turkmenistan is strengthening its position as a key transport and logistics hub in the region through the phased modernisation of its customs infrastructure and the introduction of digital technologies.

Modern customs posts, equipped with state-of-the-art inspection and screening systems, provide digital monitoring at every stage of cargo transit. This significantly speeds up customs procedures, increases throughput and reduces the time taken to clear vehicles at the border, the source notes.
