Paraguayan President Santiago Peña declared June 30 a holiday to mark the national team's advancement to the Round of 16 of the World Cup. He announced this on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

"The whole country is celebrating today. Go, Paraguay!" the president wrote.

The German national team suffered an unexpected defeat against Paraguay and was eliminated from the race for the world title. The match took place at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough (USA) and ended in a 1–1 draw. Paraguayan player Julio Enciso scored in the 42nd minute, while German forward Kai Havertz equalized in the 54th minute. Paraguay prevailed in the penalty shootout, winning 4–3.
