A conference dedicated to cooperation between Turkmenistan and Malaysia in the oil and gas sector was held in Ashgabat

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan hosted an international scientific and practical conference, "Turkmenistan – Malaysia: 30 Years of Mutually Beneficial Cooperation in the Oil and Gas Industry," within the framework of the official visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The event was attended by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Malaysian Prime Minister, leaders of the Turkmen oil and gas industry, and representatives of major international companies in the industry. The forum also featured a thematic exhibition dedicated to the Turkmen-Malaysian partnership.

Speaking at the plenary session, Serdar Berdimuhamedov reported that over 30 years of joint work, the Malaysian company Petronas has invested approximately 12 billion USD in Turkmenistan's oil and gas industry. During this period, five platforms were built in the Caspian Sea, approximately 40 wells were drilled, and over 44 billion cubic meters of gas and 16 million tons of liquid hydrocarbons were produced. With the participation of Malaysian partners, a gas processing plant, an onshore gas terminal, and an offshore structure assembly facility were built on the Turkmen coast.

The President also announced that Petronas will soon begin developing offshore blocks 19 and 20 in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, as well as conduct 2D seismic surveys at four other blocks (blocks 11, 12, 13, and 14). Development of the Magtymguly, Diýarbekir, and Garagöl Deňiz fields is ongoing, with the Öwez and Maşrykow fields expected to be commercially developed.

Anwar Ibrahim, in turn, called the partnership with Turkmenistan an example of reliable and long-term cooperation and thanked President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for his personal support of Petronas' activities in the country. The Prime Minister also confirmed his readiness to develop ties between universities in the two countries, increase student exchanges, and implement joint high-tech projects.

Following the plenary session, the President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia visited an exhibition dedicated to Turkmen-Malaysian cooperation.
