A theater in Turkmenistan's northern region is preparing a play about Baba Gammara

The troupe of the Nurmuhammed Andalib State Musical and Drama Theater in the Dashoguz region is completing work on the production of the new play "Jennet Mukamy."

The premiere of the play is a creative gift from the theater and will take place in Dashoguz during Turkmenistan Culture Week in the Balkan region, reports "Turkmenistan: Golden Age."

A colorful performance, enriched with music and folklore flavor, based on a national legend, was staged by theater director Bekmurad Hallyev based on the work of G. Danatarov and N. Soyunov.

A story about love and the multifaceted power of the Turkmen dutar transports the viewer to the youth of Baba Ghammar, who is popularly considered the first to create this national musical instrument and subsequently became its patron.

Young Gammar, possessing a bright, miraculous gift, finds himself in a distant land. Here he meets the love of his life—the only daughter of the local ruler. The protagonist faces many trials and obstacles from enemies, and his beloved falls gravely ill. On the advice of a kind elder, Gammar makes a dutar, the music of which heals the girl.

The new production features renowned theater actors, including Honored Artists of Turkmenistan H. Shyhyev and M. Seidov. The role of Gammar is masterfully performed by B. Dovlyev, and the role of the ruler's daughter is played by M. Aristanova.
